These wands are handmade in the traditional way by using a sharp knife to carve the wood. You can see the marks of the knife as no sandpaper has been used.
this Pitch Pine has been hand crafted then finished in wax.
Pitch Pine grows in North America and was imported throughout the 18 and 1900s as a material for the construction industry. It was also boiled to release it’s waterproof Pitch.
This piece of pine has been in my collection for a while, having being reclaimed from an old bridge where it will have been exposed to the weather for several hundred years. When I was working with it, there was still a large quantity of pitch within it and it gives an incredible aroma. It will have an amazing history to tell someone.
